The Landscape of Error in Surgical Pathology

چکیده
Error: In everyday language, error is getting things wrong, usually in relation to aims and purposes [67]. There is a different technical use of the term error in statistics [27]. For statisticians, error means differences in repeated measurements. These measurement differences arise from either random variation or bias. Random variation causes inconsistent differences between measurements; bias produces systematic differences between measuring methods or devices. Ordinary language and statistical error: Ordinary language and statistical uses of error have this in common: we make both errors and measurements. Study of the two kinds of error connects in this way: observers detect differences between random variation and events gone wrong systematically by measuring characteristics of the events that fail to achieve their purposes. Observers may then act rationally from their understanding of nonrandom variation to reduce and sometimes prevent practical errors. This way of connecting systematic event measurement with process improvement follows from the insight into production processes first articulated by the statistician Walter Shewhart, then extended and made famous by, Shewhart’s student W.E. Deming [13, 79]. The Shewhart–Deming approach investigates practical errors, failures of steps in a process to achieve their objectives, and AQ1

The Diagnostic Accuracy of Frozen Section Compared to Permanent Section: A Single Center Study in Iran
Background:The diagnostic accuracy of frozen section as an important source of information in surgical pathology is important not only in the management of surgical patients but also as a measure of quality control in surgical pathology. In this study, we evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of frozen sections over a 6-year period in a teaching hospital in Iran. Methods: We retr...
متن کاملSurgeons’ Errors in the Management of Patients with Cervical Cancer
Background and Aim: Generally, in patients with cervical cancer, careful preliminary evaluation is necessary for avoiding improper surgical procedures and making effective clinical decisions for treatment. The aim of this study was to determine surgeons’ errors, which necessitate a combination of surgery and radiotherapy for cervical cancer patients. Methods: In this retrospective study, med...
متن کاملPeripheral Primitive Neuroectodermal Tumor of the Ovary: The Report of Two Rare Cases
Peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor (pPNET) is a highly aggressive small round cell tumor belonging to PNET/Ewing sarcoma family. Ovarian tumors composed of primitive neuroectodermal elements are extremely rare. Herein we reported two cases of peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumors of ovary in two patients with different clinical presentations. Definite diagnoses were made bas...

Background &Objectives;: Evaluation of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and (human epidermal growth factor receptor-2) Her-2 on core needle biopsies (CNBs) is increasingly in use to diagnosis early breast cancer, but its concordance with surgical excision (SE) is not well documented. Methods: The study ...
متن کاملA Schwannoma of the Soft Palate in a Child: Histological and Immunohistochemical Features and Surgical Method
Introduction: Schwannoma, or neurilemmoma, is a benign neoplasm of Schwann cells that is extremely rare in the soft palate. Herein we present a case of a soft palate schwannoma presenting with an ulcerated surface and purplish colour in a 12 year-old girl. This report also introduces a successful surgical technique for coverage of the defect left by surgery.
متن کاملEffect of Low Level Laser Therapy on the Surgical Wound Healing in Hamster
Background and Objectives: Accelerating wound healing is a very important factor for patients to return to ordinary life. Laser seems to have positive effect on cutaneous wound healing. This study aimed to investigate the effect of red light laser 630 nm on cutaneous surgical wound in hamster and to compare outcomes such as angiogenesis, number of fibroblasts and collagen form...
